Nicholas served as an officer with the Royal GreenJackets on active service from 1965-68 , and subsequently joined the Financial Times as manager for Central and Eastern Europe. He then worked in a number of other finance and commercial companies before being appointed, in September 1997, Private Secretary to HRH Prince Michael of Kent GCVO, at Kensington Palace. He was awarded LVO by HM The Queen in the 2005 New Years Honours and CVO in 2014.
Nicholas Chance became a Justice of the Peace in 1985 , retiring finally from the City of Westminster Magistrates Court in 2013. He is a Non Executive Director of a number of companies , and member of the Advisory Board of the Institute of Statecraft and other organisations.
